Hester Creek Cabernet Franc Rosé 2020
Winery: $17.99
Hester Creek was one the first wineries I loved in the Okanagan when I was just getting into wine. It must've been around 2007 or so when I did my first BC wine tour and was bitten by the wine bug. Hester Creek with it's location on the Golden Mile in Oliver, BC, and it's Mediterranean charm was easy to love.
The wine industry has exploded around this long standing winery. There are a million and one incredible properties to visit in the Black Sage bench and Golden Mile areas but I have made some lovely memories of stops at the their restaurant, Terrafina. It remains one of my favourite places to sip wine on the patio in Oliver. Enjoy fresh pizza and wine, right from the source, while listening to the crickets and overlooking the rolling, dry grassy hills with punctuated vibrant green vineyards. It transports you...
Their 2020 vintage Cabernet Franc Rosé spent 4 days soaking with it's skins pre-crushing and the vivid dark fuchsia colour is a result of this prolonged process. It's off dry, maintaining residual sugar to support the fruit from the nose to the palate: syrupy dark cherries, cranberry, strawberry and watermelon. The finish is steely and implicative of white pepper. Acidity is medium and with all that skin contact there are some light tannins giving the wine some grip.
We had it with Chicken Parmesan tonight but I would suggest pairing it with something like jerk pork or blackened Cajun salmon.
Cheers!
