Intrigue Chardonnay 2018
When we visited Intrigue Winery while on our camping trip in the summer of 2019, we made the local news.... for finding a lost parrot. I can't even make it up, here's the news article: (https://www.bclocalnews.com/news/update-lake-country-man-reunited-with-missing-parrot/) In the midst of tasting through their lineup in the outdoor, Covid-friendly tasting area, we found the cutest little parrot wandering by a bush. When I put my hand down, he hopped right into my hand. A little internet sleuthing and we found a news story about this very bird being missing! We were able to get ahold of the owner and the two were reunited. Our group was even treated to a bottle while we waited. First class! hahaha (See Intrigue's Instagram about it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CD4mWGghZlI/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) Fun to go down memory lane when we opened up this 2018 Chardonnay from the producer.
This very accessible Chardonnay was done in 12% new French oak which you shows clearly in the bouquet. The nose had beautiful lemon, Bartlett pear, golden delicious apple and toasted hazelnuts. The wine is just slightly off dry with medium - acidity. The palate showed pear, apple, sweet canned pineapple, orange, hazelnut, toasty brioche and spice. Good value and balance in flavour.
I'd pair with lighter fall cuisine, like pork chops and apple sauce, or even turkey cutlets. The flavours were complementary to warm flavours and the structure would balance nicely with homey pork dishes.
Cheers!
