Orofino Cabernet Franc Rosé 2019

Orofino Cabernet Franc Rosé 2019

Winery: $22.99

Last year, one of my favourite wineries, Orofino Vineyards, released a three pack of rosé with the proceeds going to the South Okanagan Women In Need Society. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity... in fact, that three pack arriving was my first on Crush Food + Wine. The other day we enjoyed this last bottle from that box.

This Cab Franc Rosé is from the Pozza vineyard in the Ollala gap, grown on a cool, high altitude, northerly slope with desert conditions. These cool temperatures and dry conditions mean the grapes ripen slowly, contributing to low alcohol and dry wine.

This rosé is exceptionally pale salmon pink with hushed golden tones. The nose is full with red fruit: red currant, cherry, strawberry and raspberry. It also has dusty, dry herb notes that were reminiscent of the desert the grapes were grown in like sweet dry grass and sagebrush. On the plate the wine is dry, light bodied with low alcohol. Raspberry, cherry, strawberry and tart pear are followed by sage, dry grass and light spice notes.

If you’re looking to pop a cork of this Orofino rosé, I’d suggest a charcuterie board with fantastic local cheese and meat, as well as some excellent preserves. Otherwise give it a go on Greek night as the oregano and lemon would be a delicious companion to this flavour profile.

Cheers!
