Casa Santos Lisboa Portuga Rosé NV
BC Liquor Store: $11.99
Do you ever pick a wine based on the label? Nothing shameful to admit... we all do it. The other night, I picked up this little gem because: A) it looked beautiful and B) it was perched nicely beside one of our all time favourite value picks, the Aveleda Casal Garcia Vinho Verde.
A surprising and refreshing find, one we were pleasantly surprised with. The key here is simplicity and value. Firing up the BBQ or just need to take the edge off a hot day? This is it.
The clear, light salmon pink colour is gorgeous in the glass. The nose leads with the scent of summer... strawberry, watermelon and a hint of green like fresh cut grass.
On the palate it's dry with light, tart berry flavours like a slightly underripe strawberry, a hint of cranberry or bitter cherry. The acidity fills your mouth and leaves you with a smile... probably because the alcohol is a little high.
I'd buy again.
