Sandhill Syrah 2019
One week, two reds from Sandhill. This time, the 2019 Syrah. It's a young wine this time though, only just released, as opposed to the Sandhill Two we just drank from 2013. Picked this up for our recent Whistler trip and it was a great choice for sipping while staying cozy by the fire and the snow falling outside.
Deep ruby with hints of violet in the glass, this medium/medium + bodied Syrah is ripe with fruit: juicy red plum, black currant and blackberry. It's balanced out with black pepper, pleasantly bitter coffee and dark chocolate. The wine is dry, with medium - acidity and soft tannins. It would benefit with a couple years of aging but easily drinkable now.
I'd love to serve it alongside some good old fashioned BBQ, or lamb. The body didn't quite stand up to rich red meats for me, but take a step down from there and the sumptuous lamb or pulled pork/beef brisket would benefit greatly from pouring this Syrah in your glass.
